Donna Denney's Obituary
Donna (Whaley) Denney peacefully went home to the Lord on January 11, 2024, in Germantown, Tenn. after a prolonged battle with Multiple System Atrophy (MSA). Born on January 27, 1958, in Fairfield, Calif., she spent her formative years in Mobile, Ala. She was a graduate of Shaw High School and Spring Hill College, both in Mobile. It was at Spring Hill that she met her husband of 43 years, Michael Denney. They married in 1980 at Northside Bible Church and began their life together.
After a career in computer science at her alma mater, Donna launched into her most rewarding vocation: full-time mother to their four children. Michael’s career with International Paper regularly moved the family, and it was Donna’s positive attitude and unwavering support that helped make these transitions easier.
Her love, support and care for others in her church family and social circle embodied biblical hospitality. She spent years serving and supporting the grieving, working within the children’s ministry, and hosting wedding and baby showers.
In addition to her husband, Donna is survived by their four children: Megan Glenn (Jeff) of Germantown, Tenn.; Meredith Rutledge (Josh) of Lynchburg, Va., Melanie Denney of Lynchburg, Va.; and Michael David Denney (Cody) of Rossville, Tenn. “Mimz” will be remembered by her seven beloved grandchildren: Walter, Annie, Piper Grace, John, Ruthie, Alice, Henry, and another grandchild arriving this spring. Her mother, Kathryn Whaley, sister Carol Henderson, and sister Rebecca Lockwood (Jerome) also survive her.
Donna is preceded in death by her father, James Jerry Whaley.
A Celebration of Life service will be held Sat., January 20 at 11 a.m. at Leawood East Baptist Church in Cordova, Tenn. A reception will follow immediately for all attendees.
As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be sent to Leawood East Baptist Church or The MSA Coalition.
If you wish to send the family any arrangements, gifts or food, please reach out to a family member for the delivery location.
