Donald M. Wilkinson's Obituary
Donald M. Wilkinson, CMSGT, U.S.A.F. retired, 83, of Horn Lake, MS, passed away on June 8, 2013. He enlisted in the Army Air Corp, and served in the Korean and Vietnam Wars in Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam. Mr. Wilkinson, also served in the Central Intelligence Agency Operation and Coast Guard Auxiliary. He received the Bronze Star and the Legion of Merit. He was a life member and former Historian of the American Legion Post #134 in Horn Lake, MS, Command Master Sergeant of Lakenheath, England Air Force Base, Command Master Sergeant of Tyndall, Air Force Base Panama City, FL. Mr. Wilkinson, was a past Executive Director of the Toastmaster’s Club, former President of the Horn Lake Chamber of Commerce, where he received numerous awards for Economic Development. He graduated Campbellsville, KY, High School where he led as Captain the basketball team to a state victory. Mr. Wilkinson was also King of the Class of 1948. He was President of the Memphis Southmen W.F.L. Boosters Club, was President of Memphis Rogue Gallery Soccer Team and was instrumental in bringing soccer to the Mid-South. He led the campaign for the NFL to come to Memphis. Mr. Wilkinson, also retired from Holiday Inn as an Inspector, the first recruitment class of Inspectors handpicked by Kemmons Wilson. Mr. Wilkinson was certified in Economic Development from Central Arkansas University. He is survived by his daughter, Mary Filipiak, and her husband Joe, a sister Peggy VanDeventer of Indianapolis, IN, two grandchildren, Lacy Sharpe and Will Scott and two great grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until the service time at 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, June 12, at Memorial Park Funeral Home. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Legion #134 in Horn Lake, MS.
