Don H. McKinnon's Obituary
https://www.tributeslides.com/tributes/show/788QHGQ64QJMQS4RDon McKinnon, a native of Paris, Tenn., passed away on August 8 in Memphis, at the age of 81. He met the love of his life, Sunshine in 1958 and they married in 1961 for 57 wonderful years. He is survived by his wife, Sunshine, son Shannon (Karla) and Lance (Andrea) and his three grandchildren Lauren, Lindsay and EllisAfter a stellar prep football career at Grove High School in Paris, McKinnon signed a football scholarship with head coach Ralph Hatley at then Memphis State University. An offensive and defensive tackle, he became a starter as a red-shirt freshman and never relinquished his positions. After one season under Hatley, McKinnon would go on to play three years for legendary head coach Billy J. Murphy. During his Tiger career, McKinnon helped the Tigers to an overall record of 24-15-0, including an 8-2 mark in 1960. He was inducted into the M Club Hall of Fame in 2002. Following graduation from MSU, McKinnon played one season for the British Columbia Lions of the Canadian Football League before having his professional football career cut short by a knee injury. McKinnon returned to the Mid-South in 1963 and went to work for Alco Gravure, Inc. as part of the corporation’s communications and printing business. He advanced to Vice-President of Manufacturing and also served as the Vice-President of Manufacturing for Maxwell Communications before retiring and concentrating his efforts on farming and property development. A veteran of the United States Army and Air Force Reserve, McKinnon was selected to the Henry County Athletic Hall of Fame in 1999 and received the M Club’s Billy J.
