Don L Christenberry's Obituary
Donald L. Christenberry, 78, of Olive Branch, MS, went to his eternal home with our Lord on March 27, 2025 at St. Francis Hospital in Memphis, following surgery.
Born in Plant City, FL on November 5, 1946, he proudly shared a birthday with his childhood hero, Roy Rogers, and begged his parents to change his name to Roy. He was the younger son of Claude and Anna Lou Christenberry. He was an alumnus of Carson-Newman College and Memphis State University. He had a 40 year career in education in Memphis City Schools and in private schools in north MS where he touched the lives of thousands of students.
Don was the beloved husband of Patsy Hughey Christenberry; a loving father and grandfather; and a cherished friend to many.
Since retiring, Don enjoyed traveling, fishing, woodworking, and community service. He was always into one project or another, in between Memphis Tiger and Grizzly games.
Don was predeceased by his parents; his brother Bruce Christenberry; his brother-in-law Larry Hughey; and parents-in-law Bill and Inez Hughey. Left to honor and cherish his memory are his wife Patsy; daughter Laura Beth McCarty of Hattiesburg, MS; daughter and son-in-law Lisa and Edd Hardy of Trussville, AL; daughter and son-in-law Jennifer and Elton Griggs of Mason, TN; Grandchildren: Jonah McCarty of Hattiesburg, MS, Kaitlyn Hardy and Wes Hardy of Trussville, AL, Trey and Kacey Griggs of Brighton, TN, Beau and Sarah Griggs of Mason, TN; and Great-grandchildren: Emmett Griggs of Brighton, TN and Ellie Griggs of Mason, TN.
