Dixie Eldridge Delgado's Obituary
Dixie Eldridge Delgado died peacefully in Memphis, Tennessee on October 14, 2018 at the age of 81.She is survived by her children, Gina Chance (Joe), Susie Harlan (Kevin), Rick Delgado (Lynne); nine grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. She also leaves her siblings, Joe Eldridge (Adele), Cherie Campbell (Gary), Chris Eldridge (Allison), and Bill Eldridge (Shelby, deceased) and her extended loving Colombian family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Madeleine Eldridge, and her devoted husband and dance partner, Hernan Delgado.She was born on October 9, 1937 in Memphis Tennessee and graduated from St. Thomas Academy. She married the love of her life at an early age and welcomed three children into her home, teaching them resilience, courage, empathy and love. She was a teacher, a caretaker, and a facilitator for many Colombian family members, friends and strangers, as they arrived in Memphis to learn English, to be treated at St. Jude or to earn their U.S. citizenship.She was an avid supporter of Birthright and provided meals and clothing to the less fortunate. She spoke Spanish, entertained often in her home and loved to dance, sing, and travel.Her family is comforted by the fact that Dixie is waltzing through the clouds with Hernan. And they will think of her whenever they hear “La Bamba”.The family will receive friends from 5:30-7:30 pm with Rosary at 7:15 pm, Wednesday, October 17, at Memorial Park Funeral Home, 5668 Poplar Ave, Memphis, TN 38119. A Funeral Mass will be held at 1:30 pm, Thursday, October 18 at St. Louis Catholic Church, 203 S. White Station Rd, Memphis, TN 38117.The family requests that memorials be made to Madonna Learning Center, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the charity of the donor’s choice.Arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Ave., Memphis, TN 38119 (901) 767-8930. “Celebrating Life… Behind the Stone Wall”.
