Dianne Sanders Wage's Obituary
Dianne Sanders Wage, 87, of Memphis, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on May 1, 2026. She graduated from Central High School and Memphis State University where she earned a bachelor's degree in early childhood education. She married her high school sweetheart and best friend, Bill Wage, and they were married for 65 years before his death in 2025.
Dianne deeply loved her family and her greatest joy was being a grandmother and great-grandmother. She was known for her kind heart, generous and giving spirit, encouraging words, and sense of joy. She was also a loyal friend and over the years established many special and loving friendships.
She had a strong Christian faith and was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir and volunteered in many church ministries. In her last years, she was an active member of Colonial Park and loved being part of the church family. She also enjoyed singing in different Memphis choral groups. Dianne had a love of music and played the piano for many years.
Her foundation as an educator was evident throughout her life, both in the classroom as a teacher and as a tutor during her retirement years. She had a great compassion for children and used her gifts of teaching to encourage her students.
Dianne was a voracious reader throughout her life. She was also a lifetime supporter of University of Memphis sports. With Bill by her side, she enjoyed watching many Tigers basketball and football games, as well as Grizzlies basketball games, over the years.
Dianne is survived by two daughters, Laura Simmons (Chuck) and Julie Ross (Blake); four grandchildren, Christine Hilburn (Garret), Mary Hensel (D.J.), Sophie Ross, and Graham Ross; and two great-grandchildren, Holly and Fox Hilburn.
