Diane Sullivan's Obituary
Diane Smith Sullivan of Memphis died Thursday, March 24, 2011 in Destin, FL at Crystal Bay Senior Living Community. Releasing her spirit, which had been trapped by primary progressive aphasia over the last several years, the final chapter of a wonderful and rich life on earth has closed. Her life was not defined solely by her accomplishments, but rather by her devotion to those she loved. A dedicated wife and mother, who put her family first and was always there for support, counsel or just a quick uplifting phone call, Diane is survived by her husband of 50 years, David Sullivan and two sons, Brian Sullivan (wife Claire) of Memphis and John David Sullivan (wife Meredith) of Santa Rosa Beach, FL; and five grandchildren, Marshall and Claire Sullivan (Memphis) and Blaine, Presley and John Parker Sullivan (Santa Rosa Beach). The daughter of Margaret and Pat Smith, she and her sister Patsy Smith Gibson were reared in the Delta town of Indianola, Mississippi. She was a high school beauty queen and attended Memphis State University, where she was elected Miss Memphis State and served as a Golden Girl performer with the marching band at sporting events. For many years until her health would not allow her to participate, Diane was active in Memphi and Carnival Memphis. She loved the many friendships and associations made through these two organizations and enjoyed the work that these organizations do to raise money for children’s charities. A service for The Burial of the Dead and The Holy Eucharist will be Tuesday, March 29th at 11:30 a.m. at Church of the Holy Communion in Memphis preceded by a 10:30 Visitation in Cheney Parish Hall at the church. The Committal will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be offered to Church of the Holy Communion 4645 Walnut Grove Road Memphis, Tennessee 38117. Memorial Park Funeral Home, “Behind the stone wall”, 901-767-8930. Condolences may be offered at www.MemorialParkOnline.com
