Dewey King's Obituary
Dewey King, 90, of Memphis, loving husband and father, passed away November 14, 2009 at St. Francis Hospital.He was married for 59 years to Louise Perry King who passed away August 4, 2000. He is survived by his children Ginger Coleman, Glenda Mosteller (Paul), Steve King (Alyce), and Rodney King; eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and a sister, Laverne Raines.Mr. King worked at Gordon Hollingsworth Company until it closed, then at Winnelson Plumbing Supply, Chris-More Plumbing Supply, and Memphis Wholesale Plumbing Supply before finally retiring. He loved his work and the friends he made while working. He entered the military December 8, 1941 after Pearl Harbor. Mr. King was in the 1st Armored Division, Company C, 13th Tank Battalion. He participated in the invasion of N. Africa and Anzio and was in the first troops to remove Mussolini. Mr. King was a recipient of the Purple Heart, Silver Star, and six Bronze Stars.He was active in the Masons for many years, achieved a 32nd degree Mason and was a member of the Park Avenue Lodge. He lived life to the fullest and enjoyed every day.The family will receive friends and family 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 18, at Memorial Park Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m. Thursday, November 19, 2009.
