Dewey Hemphill's Obituary
Dewey Raymond Hemphill, 75, resident of Memphis, TN, and husband of Karen, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Thursday, March 31, 2022.
Born October 14, 1946 in Jackson, MS the son of Oscar and Peggy M. Hemphill.
He passed away peacefully in his sleep at Methodist Le Bonheur Germantown Hospital after fighting a battle with cancer.
Dewey retired from Federal Express, having worked 23 years in various management positions in the U.S. and Europe. After retiring, Dewey pursued his love of teaching in 2003, as an assistant professor in the School of Business at Crichton University. He continued to teach Business and Marketing classes at University of Memphis and University of Arkansas. Dewey joyfully volunteered as a Boyscout Troop leader for twelve years while his son, Parker was in Cub Scout Pack 458, and Boy Scout Troop 276. He enjoyed serving in the Lions Club, Lakeland chapter and helping coordinate the annual pecan sale. Dewey was active within his community volunteering his time to support local Memphis organizations that help refugee children and families education He attended First Evangelical Church, was a part of Joint Heirs Sunday School and weekly Men’s prayer group.
Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Karen; daughters, Frankie (Andy) Larsen, Caroline (Michael) Price; son Parker (Heather) Hemphill; brothers Buddy and Bubba; grandchildren, Nathan, Chandler, Jude, Gloria, Charlotte and Lucas.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 5, 2022 at First Evangelical Church, 735 Ridge Lake Blvd in Memphis, TN with Pastor Taylor Park officiating. The visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. A committal service after the funeral will immediately follow at Memorial Park funeral home.
