Dennis H. Jones' Obituary
Dennis Hardin Jones, 57, of Germantown, TN, beloved husband, father, brother and friend, passed away at his home on December 28, 2009. Born in Memphis, TN, Dennis was the youngest child of the late Joe and Thelma Jones. He is preceded in death by parents, Joe and Thelma Jones; and mother-in-law Evelyn Mullins. He is survived by the love of his life and very devoted wife of 35 years, Debbie Jones, who will miss him dearly, but will always remember their timeless love. He leaves behind his pride and joy, daughter, Cristin Jones Santana, and son-in-law, John Cameron Santana of Raleigh, NC; his loving brother, Larry F. Jones and sister-in-law, Pam Jones of Tampa, FL; and father-in-law, Albert J. Mullins of Germantown, TN. He also leaves behind his precious puppies Dawson, Carson and Lucy Jones. Dennis began his career at Ernst & Ernst in 1974 before he became a widely recognized information technology visionary and business leader. Dennis H. Jones was the CEO and a founding partner of Securas Consulting Group, LLC, a computer service firm that serves small and mid size companies. He served as Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors and President of Commerce One from 2001-2002. Prior to joining Commerce One, Dennis served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Accel-KKR, a Silicon Valley investment company. However, Dennis is best known for his 25 years at FedEx Corporation, culminating in his role as Executive Vice President of Information Technology and Chief Information Officer. During his tenure at FedEx, Dennis built a world-class technology organization with more than 5,000 professionals worldwide. In 1994, under his guidance, FedEx introduced online package tracking, making it the first major corporation to do business on the Web. Two years later, Dennis led FedEx in another first, developing the technology to process shipping transactions online. Under Dennis’ leadership, FedEx received many honors, including consistent recognition by ComputerWorld as one of the “Best Places to Work.” In acknowledgement of Jones’ lasting contributions to the company, FedEx named the centerpiece building of its 1.0 million square foot World Technology Center campus in Collierville, Tennessee “Dennis H. Jones Hall.” A memorial service and celebration of Dennis’ life will be held at Germantown United Methodist Church on January 5, 2010. Visitation with the family will begin at 10:30 a.m. and the memorial service to follow at 11:30 a.m. The family asks that you please come to celebrate the life of Dennis Jones and the many people he touched by wearing red. The family requests that memorials be made to Le Bonheur Club, 1047 Cresthaven Road, Memphis, TN 38119. To his family he was a husband, father, brother, son-in-law and uncle, while many others knew him as “The Deeg”. With all of the love in our hearts we will miss you.
