Delores C. Thomas' Obituary
Delores Cawthorn Thomas, age 85, of Cordova, TN went to be with her Lord in her Heavenly home on December 22, 2016 surrounded by her husband and family members. She is preceded in death by her parents Vernon Cawthorn and Velma Cawthorn a granddaughter Laura, and also her grandparents Tish and Clarence Bond who raised her, her brother and sister after their mother died when Delores was 15 and her father left town. She was born on February 7, 1931 in Memphis, TN, graduated from Memphis Technical High School in May 1949 and married John on July 29, 1949 at Union Avenue Baptist Church. Later she was a member of Eudora Baptist Church, and in the last thirty years she was a member of Bellevue Baptist Church in Cordova, TN. A loving devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother who found joy in serving in the adult choirs for 65 years, praying for people after greeting and talking with them, and was a devoted “Prayer Warrior” serving at Bellevue Church. She always loved her family visits and gatherings, going to athletic games or other performances they were playing in. Her grandchildren call her “DeeDee” and said she was “…gracious, giving, unwavering love and support for her family”; “…always considerate of others, a strong lady who truly loved and walked daily with the Lord.”; “a wise teacher who loved her family, and the person who taught me about unconditional love and support”; “A perfect example to all”; my best friend and could read me like a book.” She went on foreign mission trips to Brazil, and to Guatemala many times where her son Jeff and family serve. Her beautiful smile was truly her outward expression of her inward love for people she knew and met. She was devoted completely to her husband John in a 67 year marriage deemed by the former Assistant Pastor of Union Avenue Baptist Church who performed their marriage“…as a marriage made in Heaven.”; reared their four children in the ways of The Lord; prayed unceasingly for them, and their eleven grandchildren, a great grandchild and the married spouses. Delores is survived by her devoted husband of 67 years, John W. Thomas, Jr., her loving daughter Julianne Thomas, devoted sons and lovely daughters-in-law, John G. Thomas (Cathy), David W. Thomas (Roselyn) and Rev. Jeffrey C. Thomas (Karen); eleven grandchildren, Drew (Annalisa), Heather Garner (Russell), Jonathan, Sean, Kelly, Shelley, Elise, Andrew (Yumi), Bethani (Wil), Caleb and Daniel; one great grandson Beck; a sister, Lorraine Ogilvie and a brother, Robert Cawthorn and sister-in-law, Judy Cawthorn.Family request memorials be sent to Family of Friends Bible Class at Bellevue Baptist Church; Love Worth Finding, Life Choices, Calvary Rescue Mission or a charity of their choosing.Visitation and services will be held at Bellevue Baptist Church in the chapel on Wednesday December 28, 2016 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., followed by services at 1:00 p.m. Entombment will be at Memorial Park Funeral Home & Cemetery Mausoleum in the Rotunda, 5668 Poplar Avenue.
