Delilah Byrd's Obituary
Delilah Cutberth Byrd, 83, who resided in Germantown, Tennessee passed away at her home on September 3, 2025. Born in Walnut, Mississippi on September 10, 1941. She was the 4th of five children. She was raised on the family farm and helped chop and pick cotton, take care of livestock and milk cows. There was no indoor plumbing in the home, and electricity wasn’t installed until she was 12 years old. After graduating high school in 1959, she left for the city to work at Sears Crosstown. At work, she caught the eye of Harold Byrd whom she dated and married in 1960, all in 5 months' time. Their marriage lasted 61 years before he passed away in 2021. They enjoyed many years of traveling and working together in the family business of painting and carpentry. She faithfully supported her husband with anything they set their mind to do. She enjoyed hosting & cooking for family gatherings, Thanksgiving & Christmas holidays, shopping, taking care of babies, supporting her family, and driving fast.
A dedicated mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she is survived by her daughters Sandra Brooks and Teri Ingram. As well as grandchildren Brittany Wicker (David), Jackie Mietsch (Eric), Joshua Ingram (Grace), Kayla Brooks, Josi Krivsky (Jay), Jana Smigielski (Troy), and Lydia Touliatos (Spero). As well as 12 ½ (due in Dec.) beloved great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Harold Byrd; her parents Joseph Gamble and Annie Mae Munn Cutberth of Walnut, Mississippi, and siblings Billie Ruth Cardwell, Troy Cutberth, Charles Cutberth, and Shirley Meeks.
We celebrate a life well lived and now she is celebrating in heaven with her blessed savior. Visitation will be held at 10 am September 9, 2025, with the funeral at 11 am in the Fireside Chapel at Memorial Park Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Ave. Memphis, TN.
