Debby Lane Follis' Obituary
Deborah Lane Follis, of Memphis, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on May 10, with her beloved dog Mia in her arms. A beloved daughter, sister, aunt, and great-aunt, she will be deeply missed and forever cherished by those who knew and loved her.
Born in Memphis on July 17,1951 Debby was the devoted daughter of Elmer and LaQuita Follis. Throughout her life, she traveled extensively with her family, cultivating a deep appreciation for both American and English history. Her passion for learning led her to earn a master’s degree in American history, after which she dedicated over 30 years to teaching history in the Texas public school system.
In the last two decades of her life, Debby returned to Memphis, where she generously gave her time to numerous charitable organizations. She took particular pride in her service as a St. Jude Lady, volunteering countless hours at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Her compassion, dedication, and loving spirit touched the lives of many children and families she supported through her work.
Debby’s life was marked by kindness, curiosity, and an unwavering commitment to helping others. She leaves behind a legacy of love, education, and service that will not be forgotten.
A memorial service will be held in the chapel at Second Presbyterian Church, 4055 Poplar Avenue, Memphis, TN on Tuesday, May 20 at 2:00 p.m. with visitation in the Salmon Room from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that gifts be made to St. Jude
Children’s Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.
