Debbie Drury Gould's Obituary
Debbie Drury Gould of Germantown, TN, 63, passed away on October 28, 2017, following a 5-year battle with Parkinson’s Disease. She was born November 17, 1953, in Hopkinsville, KY to George and Eldon Drury.She is survived by her daughter Samantha Gould; sons, Sean and Paul Gould; brother, Jim (Greta) Drury; sister, Donna (Gary) Ingram; and grandchildren, Maryn and Philip Gould III. She was preceded in death by her parents.Growing up in Hopkinsville, or “Hop-town” as they called it, Debbie attended Hopkinsville High School where she was a member of the National Honor Society and swim team. She went on to graduate from The University of Mississippi in 1975. She was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority and named the Ole Miss Homecoming Queen in 1974. She settled in Memphis where she was a realtor for 20+ years. She worked in the membership office at The Racquet Club of Memphis for several years, during which time, she helped organize and plan all the special events. Debbie loved to entertain. Whether it was her traditional Thanksgiving lunch, tailgating in the Grove, or just opening her home to family and friends, Debbie had every detail covered.In addition to entertaining, Debbie had many other interests and talents. She had an eye for decorating, and she filled her home with many unique pieces, each one with its own special story. Debbie enjoyed swimming, playing tennis, shopping, gardening, and sitting by her fish pond. She cherished the times spent with her kids over the years, whether it was watching them play sports, gathering for dinner, celebrating holidays and special events, or going on vacation. Her grandchildren brought her so much joy these past few years. They loved their time at DeDe’s house where they would feed the fish, play in the playhouse, eat ice cream, and undoubtedly return home with a happy that DeDe would say she just “couldn’t pass up.”Debbie was a beautiful woman inside and out, a loving daughter, mother, grandmother and role model. All those who knew Debbie would remember her as a sweet, caring, positive and uplifting person. Debbie was so full of life and love for her family and friends, and her heart and soul will be missed by all. She is undoubtedly snuggling with her beloved dog Brody right now.The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Mildred Yates, Shelita Dunbar, Sylvania Dyson and all of the wonderful women who have cared for Debbie over the past few years, and to her closest friends, Lisa Ozier, Debbie Gadd, and Debbie Rodda, who have provided so much love and support for her and the family.The family will receive friends on Thursday, November 2 from 5:00 – 7:00pm at Memorial Park, 5668 Poplar Ave, Memphis, TN 38119. A memorial service will be held Friday, November 3, at 11:00am at Christ United Methodist Church, 4488 Poplar Ave, Memphis, TN 38117. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be sent to the Humane Society of Memphis.
