DeAnne Downing Furry's Obituary
DeAnne Furry, 93, of Memphis, TN, went to be with her Lord and Savior on May 25, 2026.
Born on June 27, 1932, in Memphis, TN, to the late Ozma and Ozelle Durham, DeAnne dedicated her life to raising her five children, who were the pride and joy of her life. Her home was always filled with warmth, laughter, the smell of a home-cooked meal, and often the sound of a Kansas City Chiefs game playing in the background. Few things made her happier than cheering on the Chiefs each season, surrounded by the people she loved most. She is remembered for her work ethic, specifically being the Executive Director of the Memphis and Shelby County Bar Association.
An avid reader, she could often be found with a novel in hand, especially anything written by John Grisham, whose stories she thoroughly enjoyed. She was an excellent cook whose meals brought family together around the table and created memories that will last generations. She also enjoyed knitting gifts for loved ones, spending time on the golf course—famously using only her putter for the entirety of the game—and caring for her beloved bird, Charlie, who brought her endless companionship and joy.
She is survived by her five loving children; Hal Downing, Kathryn D. Whitford, Barbara Baldwin (Gary), Scott Downing, and Teresa D. Austin; 8 cherished grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren; and many extended family members and dear friends who will miss her greatly.
In addition to her parents, DeAnne is preceded in death by the love of her life and husband for over 20 years, Jack (TJ) Furry.
“Her faith guided her, her love sustained her family, and her memory will forever remain in our hearts.”
Visitation for Mrs. Furry will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM. The Celebration of Life will take place beginning at 2:00 PM, following visitation on June 6, 2026, in the Fireside Chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Memorial Park Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements.
