David Wark's Obituary
David L. Wark, 84, a long time Germantown resident, was called home to be with his Lord on Dec. 14th, 2020. Surrounded by family, he passed peacefully at Methodist Hospice House. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Catharine Wark, his son and daughter in law Christopher and Micah Wark and two granddaughters, Marin and Mackenzie Wark.
Born in Detroit, Michigan, Dave is the son of James and Elaine Wark. He attended Detroit University School and Dartmouth College where he was a student leader, fraternity member and football player. He then completed his MBA degrees at Tuck Business School and the University of Chicago. He served honorably in the United States Air Force where he was stationed at a remote radar site in Alaska. Following a 5-year stint at the CIA, Mr. Wark moved to New York where he worked for American Express and the Reader’s Digest before accepting an executive position with National Bank of Commerce in Memphis. He retired from Vining Sparks in 2017.
In his youth, Dave liked to play polo, race cars and fly airplanes. He loved to sail and was also an avid photographer and tennis player. He was active in various civic organizations in Memphis and devoted to his favorite ministry, Adult & Teen Challenge of Memphis–a faith-based drug and alcohol treatment center–serving on the Board of Directors there for many decades. He also served on the National Teen Challenge Board.
Dave Wark will be remembered as a devoted family man, servant of God and inspirational leader and business man in the Memphis Community. He will be greatly missed.
Services will be held by Memorial Park funeral home on Friday ,Dec. 18th at 2pm. Visitation begins at 12:30pm. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Teen Challenge. www.atctn.org
