David Allan "Smokey" Furnas' Obituary
Dave “Smokey” Furnas, Sr., 75, passed away Thursday, December 1, 2016 at Baptist Collierville surrounded by his family. Smokey was born August 13, 1941 in Dayton, Ohio to Oliver Everett and Marjorie Jean Weaver Furnas. He was a 1959 graduate of Miamisburg High School, and attended Ohio University and Memphis State University. He met the love of his life, Sheila Hansen in November 1965, and they were married in January 1966. Smokey spent the majority of his adult life in Memphis, having a successful career in investment banking for 45 years. He was a member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church. Smokey enjoyed the finer things in life like spending time with his family; especially his grandchildren. He loved grilling on a charcoal grill, tall Miller Lite, and watching Ole Miss sports. Fishing and boating were always a passion of his, whether it was relaxing on his house boat or speed racing in his drag boat. Smokey will be dearly missed by his loving wife of 50 years, Sheila Hansen Furnas; children, Dave Furnas, Jr. (Jynn), Ken Furnas, Jenny Henszey (David); grandchildren, David “Trey” Furnas, III, Everett Furnas, Ryver Furnas, Hunter Furnas, Kaley Furnas, Kelsey Coleman and Kyler Coleman; his sister, Bonnie Franklin (Ron) and nephew Ron Franklin, Jr., and his beloved dogs Bear and Sara. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 6, 2016, beginning at 12 pm, followed by a Celebration of Life at 1 pm, both at Memorial Park Funeral Home. A reception will follow in the Parkside Event Center at Memorial Park Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Emmanuel United Methodist Church, or charity of the donor’s choice. . “Celebrating Life….Behind the Stone Wall.”
