David Eugene Murphy's Obituary
David Eugene Murphy, 85, passed away May 19, 2015 in Memphis, Tenn. Dave is survived by his wife of 64 years, Barbara, sons Mark (Teresa) and Scott, grandchildren Megan, Morgan and Cameron Murphy, and great-grandchild J.J. Murphy. Dave played football at the University of Idaho, where he earned his B.S. in Education and earned his M. Ed. From the University of Mississippi. He was a former Company Commander of the 101st Airborne Infantry in the U.S. Army. Dave was a coach, teacher and administrator in the Memphis City Schools for 30 years. He taught and coached at Humes High School from 1956-1963 and at Kingsbury High School from 1963-1967. In 1967 he became an administrator with the Board of Education, from which he retired in 1986. Dave was involved with the Retired Teachers Association and the Memphis Area Teachers’ Credit Union (MATCU) for several years and served on the Board of Directors. The family will receive friends Friday, May 22, from 5-7:00 p.m. and funeral services on Saturday, May 23, at 11:30 a.m., all at Memorial Park Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Grace Evangelical Church in Germantown.Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Ave. Memphis, TN 38119, “Behind the Stone Wall.”
