David Lee McKee's Obituary
David Lee McKee, 66, of Collierville passed away Friday, August 17, 2012 at the Regional Medical Center-Memphis. Dave has been a stalwart at ALSAC for the past 35 years, taking on whatever challenges came his way, and always with a smile and gentle determination. He devoted essentially his entire professional career to serving the mission of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital through his numerous accomplishments and leadership at ALSAC. Dave began as an ALSAC regional director in 1977 and was soon promoted to take over Field Operations. As the leader of that group, he was instrumental in starting many successful programs, the largest of which is the St. Jude Country Cares program. In 2000, Dave assumed the position of Chief Operating Officer at ALSAC, a role he successfully played until his retirement in June. Dave also served as interim CEO in 2008-2009, providing strong leadership during the transition. All of us are deeply saddened and shocked by this unexpected news. We will always remember Dave and his legacy as a leader, colleague and friend. In the meantime, please keep his wife Portia, his children David, April and Amanda, and his three grandchildren in your thoughts. He is survived by his loving wife, Portia McKee; children, David McKee of Collierville, April Fowler of Arlington, and Amanda Madison of Memphis; grandchildren, Charlie Madison, Emily Madison and Caroline McKee; brother, Daun McKee of Fleetwood, PA; and sister, Ellen Long of Christianburg, VA. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 8:00 pm, Tuesday, August 21, 2012, at Memorial Park Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 1:30 pm, Wednesday, August 22, 2012, at Hope Presbyterian Church with the interment to follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. The family requests that memorials be sent to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Services are entrusted to Memorial Park Funeral Home & Cemetery “Behind the Stone Wall.”
