David G. Luther's Obituary
David Gaston Luther, Sr. passed away at his Germantown home the evening of April 8, 2015. Born on December 8, 1923 in Asheville, North Carolina, the second of four sons born to Martha Gwendolyn and Allen Crow Luther. He was married to Eula Mae Archer for 58 years and was at her bedside when she passed in April 2007. He served in the Army in World War II, and he earned an associates degree in finance from Asheville-Biltmore College. He spent almost 40 years with the U.S. Postal Service, and was the Assistant to the Regional Postmaster General at the time of his retirement. He was an early member of Woodland Presbyterian Church, where he stayed active and continued to serve his community. He is survived by his son David G. Luther, Jr. of Dallas, TX, who is married to Pamela Luther; his daughter, Diane Rast of Columbia, TN, who is married to Steve Rast; his grandchildren: Amanda Luther, Ryan Luther, Sabin Rast, and Stephen Rast; and his step-grandchildren: Craig Smitham, Frank Smitham, Claire Smitham, Bubba Smitham, Colin Smitham, and Jack Smitham. Visitation will be from 4-6 pm on Sunday, April 12 at Memorial Park Funeral Home, 5668 Poplar Ave, Memphis. Funeral services will be at 10:00 am on Monday, April 13 at Woodland Presbyterian Church, 5217 Park Ave, Memphis. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Woodland Presbyterian Church.Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Ave. Memphis, TN 38119, “Behind the Stone Wall.”
