I met David at Sripps Howard Memphis in the early 80’s. In January 1986, he hired me to co-host a morning show in Memphis that continued until 2003. I owe a huge part of my radio career to him. He was always genuine, and one of the more creative people I’ve had the opportunity to work with. David will be missed. My prayers and condolences go out to his family.
My first contact with David Gingold came in 1990, when he was President of Barnstable Broadcasting and I was an unemployed disc jockey and Program Director–considering a career selling AFLAC insurance (no kidding). He conducted a phone interview for the Program Director position at WHOM-FM in Portland, Maine. I was nervous, but he put me right at ease—and allowed me to take chances and make mistakes. I stayed at WHOM for 21 years, through four owners and three different locations. I’ll never forget the opportunity he made possible.
David game me my first General Manager’s job in Harrisburg, PA with Barnstable Broadcasting in 1988. Prior to that I worked with him as VP Programming at KIX 106. He was very creative and allowed me to make many mistakes in my first GM gig of which I am eternally greatful. His passing at 62 is too young and he will be sorely missed.Dana Harmon
