David Noel Caffey's Obituary
David Noel Caffey, 61, passed away peacefully at his home on April 15, 2024, after a hard-fought battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia.
David was born in Memphis, TN on October 7, 1962 to Shed and Jane Caffey. A proud lifelong Memphian, as a child David loved to explore the city via his bicycle or by public transportation. He was a faithful supporter of University of Memphis football, Memphis Grizzlies basketball and the triumphs of Jerry “The King” Lawler.
Since childhood, David had a passion for the performing arts and acting on both stage and screen. In 2021, David achieved his lifelong dream by writing and starring in “Dear Lady Joan” which went on to win that year’s Memphis Film Prize. The narrative short was inspired by and dedicated to his late mother Jane.
David is preceded in death by his parents Shed and Jane Caffey. He is survived by his wife Margaret of 36 years who he first met while working as teenagers at Libertyland. He is also survived by his son David Caffey Jr (Jacqueline), grandson David Caffey III, brother Kip (Jan) of Atlanta, sister Betsy of Tupelo as well as many nieces and nephews.
Because of the courage and generosity of an anonymous bone marrow donor, David lived 9 years beyond his diagnosis to enjoy travel with his wife, his son’s wedding, and the birth of his grandson.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to please consider making a financial contribution to and/or registering for the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP). For more information, please visit bethematch.org.
