David Alan Boone's Obituary
David Alan Boone, born on December 27, 1951, in Port Hueneme, California, passed from this life to a heavenly one on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, after a short illness.
David will be remembered for the way he made people feel. He put a smile on people’s faces. He made people laugh. He knew how to talk to anyone, even a complete stranger. He always found a common connection with others.
He also loved music. He was active in the church choir, leading the singing in his Sunday school class, and playing his guitars. He would often sit in his recliner with his guitar strumming and humming away.
David loved to cook. He could whip up anything. He was famous in the family for his sauces. He was creative and was always thinking about putting recipes together.
He loved to travel and to read, experiencing new cultures, especially the food. The history enthusiast in him was always present wherever he went. He was always engaging locals about the history of their area, and they often seemed fascinated that he knew so much. It was a joy to watch this happen.
David received a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from the University of South Alabama in Mobile, Alabama in 1974. Upon graduation, he began a 32-year career with International Paper Company, starting at their Mobile Mill where he rose to the role of Paper Mill Superintendent. In 1990 he transferred to the company’s Ticonderoga, New York Mill, and in 1992, he transferred to the headquarters location in Memphis, Tennessee. In his career, he received numerous awards and recognitions. Among them are: US Patent for “Cut Resistant Paper and Paper Articles and Method for Making Same”, the Springhill Papers Medal of Honor, Production Innovation Award for GATORPRINT, Customers First Success Award, The Erie Research Center Quality Recognition for Security Papers Development, and the Biggest Hairiest and Most Audacious Goal (BHAG) Award.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Frances Waite Boone of Oxnard, California, who passed away in 1952, and by his father, Marvin Dewitt Boone, Jr. of Grafenwöhr, Germany and Destin, Florida, who passed away in 2020. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 36 years, Teresa Boone of Germantown, Tennessee; three children – Eroica Boone and her husband, Adam Rogers of San Antonio, Texas; Ross Boone and his wife, Tuyet Bui of Alexandria, Virginia; Graham Boone of Washington, District of Columbia; three grandsons – Peyton Jones and his fiancé Sumana Seshadri of Gales Ferry, Connecticut; Aiden Treherne and his wife, Piper of Mobile, Alabama; Jake Johnson of Puyallup, Washington; two great grandchildren, Jude and Adeline Treherne of Mobile, Alabama; sister Valerie Danner of Goodyear, Arizona; brother Andrew Boone and his wife Mi Jung of Kaiserslautern, Germany; sister Victoria Boone of Greeley Colorado; stepmother Marianne Boone of Grafenwöhr, Germany and Destin, Florida; and many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
We want to thank the amazing doctors who provided care and strove to think outside the box for solutions to this aggressive cancer and to the incredible nurses at Methodist Le Bonheur Germantown Hospital who cared for him with a smile and a happy demeanor.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Sunday, February 23, at Germantown Baptist Church in the CORE building, 9450 Poplar Avenue. Visitation will be at 1:00 PM followed by a 2:00 PM service.
