Darwin Vaughn's Obituary
DARWIN PENN VAUGHAN, Colonel U.S. Army (Ret.), 90, died on January 9, 2011 at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Memphis. He was born in Humboldt, Tennessee, March 23, 1920 to Benjamin Franklin and Rosa Ileta Vaughan and moved to Memphis in 1929 and attended Messick High School. He joined Central Avenue Baptist Church (formerly Southern Avenue Baptist and now Ridgeway Baptist Church), where he was baptized at age 14 and was ordained as a deacon in November 1961. He served in the Army Quartermaster Corps from October 1941 to February 1946 and continued service to his country in the Army Reserves retiring with the rank of Colonel in March 1980. He retired from E. I. du Pont de Nemours and Company. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Jane Fuller having been married for 68 years. Other survivors include his daughter, Betty Jane Green (Allen), and his sons, Dr. Don Vaughan (Alice), Gary Vaughan (Pam) and Ronnie Vaughan (Natalie). He was blessed with 10 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren. Memorials may be sent to Ridgeway Baptist Church.
