Darrell Keith Hudson's Obituary
Darrell Keith Hudson, 63, of Southaven, MS closed his eyes Saturday, March 5, 2011 only to open them again in Jesus’ arms and singing God’s praises. He has been invited to bring his wonderful bass voice to sing with God’s angelic choir. Darrell fought a difficult battle with colon cancer. Born in Memphis, he was the son of the late Jack and Kathleen B. Hudson. Darrell is survived by his wife, Dot Hudson; two daughters, Kristie Cherry and Becki Truscelli, brother David Hudson, Sr. (Debra) all of the Memphis area; sister Jackie Hadfield (Alan) of Houston, TX; grandchildren Lauryn Haynes and Taylor Hammer; step-children Gary Darnaby, Cindy Wallace, Mindy Knight of Memphis area and Crystal Hartman (Michael) of Paducah, KY; five step-grandchildren Mollie Darnaby, Addison and Conan Wallace and Reagan and Brennen Hartman; and, numerous nieces and nephews. Darrell was a member of Abundant Grace Ministries Church of God, Collierville. Besides his family, his greatest love was singing Southern gospel music. Since 1975, he sang bass or baritone in various gospel groups including: Gospelaires Quartet, Glenn’s Chapel Quartet, Blackwood Quartet, Royalty Ministries, Elite Trio, Kings Four, The Providence Quartet, and Abundant Grace Quartet. He was most recently employed by Cooper Freight Service, Inc. Previously, he was employed by Quality Insulation and spent 39 years in the insulation industry. Darrell was a Vietnam Veteran, serving four years in the US Army in the Battalion US Aviation, reaching a rank of Sergeant E-6. He graduated from Whitehaven High School in 1967 and attended Shelby State College. Visitation will be from 5 -8 p.m., Tuesday, March 8 at Memorial Park Funeral Home. The funeral service will be at 1 p.m., Wednesday, March 9 also at Memorial Park Funeral Home.
