Danny Bubnick's Obituary
Danny Bubnick was a private person, until you got to know him. Most who didn’t know him just thought it was his Canadian manner. For those lucky enough to really know him, they found a creative, warm, generous and a loyal friend with a distinct sarcastic, dry sense of humor, who found something funny with every situation. Born Danny Donald Bubnick, January 3, 1963 to Elaine Bubnick and the late Jim Bubnick in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada, Danny, one of four boys, grew into the precocious boy who had a fun loving spirit, of which he never outgrew. Hockey, lacrosse, fishing on Shell Lake and the outdoors occupied Danny’s early years in Canada. He ventured down South to Memphis 25 years ago and landed at B.A. Framer. Fortunately for Danny, he met one of his favorite customers, Carol Sagerty. They married June 6, 1998. With a loyal following of customers from his B.A. Framer days, Danny and Carol soon opened Midtown Framer and Art on Union Ave. Danny’s creativity and attention to detail quickly became the Memphis art community’s favorite place to have their work framed, displayed and sold. Artists often gathered at Midtown Framer just to visit with Danny and fellow artists. Danny and Carol’s best collaborative effort came in the artistic creation of their two children, Joseph, 17, and Anna, 15. Danny’s love quickly spread to working on Scouting projects and going to dance recitals. He became Asst. Scoutmaster for Troop 270 in the Chickasaw Council of the Boy Scouts of America, Joseph’s troop. Danny was, indeed, a private person with a generous heart. He supported many organizations throughout the Mid-South including, Camp Good Grief, Church Health, the Orpheum, the American Heart Association, to name but a few. It was not uncommon for Danny to provide his generosity to others who never knew him. Once, he anonymously paid for basketball uniforms for some less fortunate boys who played on the same team as his son. He frequently paid for a police officers’ dinner or filled up their gas tank. That was Danny’s character. If Danny were here, he would be making sarcastic remarks about his own obituary, mainly pointing out the absurdity of the grandiose accomplishments listed. He would not want his family and friends to make too much of his life. But, we want to pause and pay our respect and love for Danny. Danny is survived by his wife, Carol, his children, Joseph and Anna, his mother, Elaine Bubnick, his brothers, Perry (Cindy) Bubnick, Rob (Renee) Bubnick, and David (Janine) Bubnick, numerous nieces and nephews, his father-in-law, Bill Sagerty (the late Yoshie), sister-in-laws, Shirley Sagerty, and Sandra Sagerty-Crenshaw (Steve) and his dedicated employees of Midtown Framer and Art. Danny was a dedicated member of Hope Presbyterian Church. Family will receive friends 5-7 p.m., Thursday, November 8 and funeral services celebrating his life will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, November 9 at Memorial Park Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. A reception will follow the graveside at Midtown Framer & Art, 1523 Union Avenue, Memphis, TN 38104. The family requests any memorials to be sent to: Baptist Center of Camp Good Grief, through the Baptist Memorial Health Care Foundation, or The American Cancer Society.Arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Ave., Memphis, TN 38119 (901) 767-8930. “Celebrating Life… Behind the Stone Wall”.
