Daniel Hayden Campbell, III's Obituary
DANIEL HAYDEN CAMPBELL, III, of Cordova, TN, died peacefully at home August 5 at age 76. He was a native Memphian and is survived by his wife, Sherry Hurdle Campbell; his son, Dan Campbell (Blandina); his daughters Mary Kelley (Scott) and Rachel Scoggins; and grandchildren, Hayden, Constantin, Andie, Sophia, Chloey, and Ethan.After graduating from Treadwell High School, he joined the Army Reserves. He furthered his education at Memphis State University receiving a B.S. in Education and a Master’s Degree in Education Administration. He began his 30-year teaching career with the Memphis City Schools at Carnes Elementary when the teachers were being integrated. He always taught in the inner-city schools. Many summers were spent working with other underprivileged children and teens in Memphis through the Youth Service program. In the 70s he felt he could serve his country by representing them in Congress for District 8 in West Tennessee and getting back to the principles of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. He won the Republican primary, but was unsuccessful in the general election. In the 80s he founded Houston Security, a security guard business, in Memphis. His hobbies included boating and photography. Vacation: the beach!In retirement he became afflicted with Alzheimer’s; it has been a long journey for all of us. The family wishes to thank his caregiver “the mun” (Mary) for her dedication and love of him, and the Hospice nurses and caregivers. The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm Wednesday, August 8 at Memorial Park Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10 am Thursday August 9 also at Memorial Park Funeral Home.
