My mother, Bonnye Sampson (nee Brand) was life-long best friends with Dale. They were close as sisters, and always looked after each other.
When Bonnye had a stroke and began to show signs of Alzheimer's (just as Dale's mother, Bonnie, had as well), Dale knew what to expect and helped me and my father in preparing for the difficult task of taking care of her. Dale took time off work to be with Bonnye as much as possible, and was always only a phone call away whenever she experienced a violent dementia episode. Throughout it all, Dale was the only person that Bonnye was able to recognize, even up to her final days, and seeing Dale enter the room was enough to instantly calm and brighten her mood.
It was a beautiful and touching friendship that lasted nearly 70 years.
