Curt Allen Kobler's Obituary
Curt Allen Kobler, 58, of Memphis, died peacefully on Wednesday, March 31st, after a long illness. He was born on June 15th, 1962, in Cairo, Illinois, to Dr. William “Doc” Kobler and Carla (nee Myers) Kobler, who both preceded him in death. Curt is survived by his four children, William, Grant, Reid, and Elizabeth, his beloved brother William “Bubba” Kobler (Debbie), several nieces and nephews, his former wife and parenting partner, Dana Turner Daly, and countless treasured friends throughout the United States, who were drawn to his near-permanent smile and easy laugh. He was also preceded in death by his loving sister Linda Faulkner (Wayne).
Born and raised in Cairo, Curt attended St. Joseph Catholic Grade School and Cairo High, where he played football, graduating in 1980. He then attended Shawnee Community College, eventually moving to Memphis and in 1992 converted a love for cars into a 29-year career in the automobile business at Oakley Keesee Ford, now AutoNation. At the time of his death he was Internet Sales Manager, and was very well-liked by his co-workers, who continued to support him throughout his recent health issues.
Curt enjoyed golf, fishing, playing pickup basketball, going home to Cairo for visits, and treasured his family getaway house on Kentucky Lake. To him, a fancy restaurant paled in comparison to a fish fry with friends. His greatest source of pride and the joy of his life was his children, who will miss him immeasurably.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date at Egyptian Country Club in Mounds, Illinois. The family is requesting memorial donations in his name be provided to the Cairo Preservation Fund, in care of the Cairo Public Library, PO Box 151, Cairo, Illinois 62914.
Curt Kobler leaves a legacy of a life lived with a great appreciation for the joy of friendship, nature, and family. The loss of his ever-present grin featuring his remarkably perfect teeth, leaves many with a deep sense of sadness. Yet, he and his children, in his final months, felt great joy from the giant outpouring of support, love, and prayers he received from so many people across all aspects of his life. The family would like to express their deep and profound thanks.
A celebration of Curt's life will be held on Saturday, May 15th from 1-4 pm at Egyptian Country Club in Mounds, IL (4480 US-51, Mounds, IL, 62964).
