Courtney "Gene" Melvin's Obituary
Courtney Eugene Melvin, of Germantown, Tennessee passed away Tuesday, February 8th, 2011, at age 68. Gene was a veteran of the United States Air Force. He was at peace and surrounded by his loving family, for whom he provided so well, and with whom he shared his uncommon strength of character. Gene was an exceptional human being and the kindest of souls. The blessing of his company, and his memory, shall remain a treasure from our Lord. Gene was the only child of Vivian Adaleen Melvin (DePuy) and Courtney Leyhe Melvin, both of whom preceded him in death. He is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Carolyn Gail Melvin; his daughter Paige Annette Melvin; his son Russell Courtney Melvin and daughter-in-law Suzanne Austin Melvin, as well as their two children Amanda Taylor Melvin and Courtney Paige Melvin. The family wishes to acknowledge the loving support of Gene’s legion of friends, most particularly from his devoted bicycle gang, from the Memphis Jewish Community Center, and from his Federal Express colleagues of 28 years. Your comfort soothes our minds, and tends to our souls. The family wishes to acknowledge the spiritual and medical care provided by our friends at Methodist Le Bonheur Germantown Hospital. Through your skill, Gene’s final days among us were made comfortable. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Gene’s memory be made to The Lance Armstrong Foundation (http://www.livestrong.org) or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (http:// www.stjude.org). A celebration of Gene’s life will take place on Sunday, February 27, 2011 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Please join us at the Memphis Jewish Community Center, located at 6560 Poplar Avenue, Memphis, Tennessee. Into your hands, O merciful Savior, we commend your servant Courtney Eugene Melvin. Acknowledge, we humbly beseech you, a sheep of your own fold, a lamb of your own flock, a sinner of your own redeeming. Receive him in the arms of your mercy, in the blessed rest of everlasting peace, and into the glorious company of the saints in light. Amen. May his soul and the souls of all the departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen. Memorial Park Funeral Home, “Behind the stone wall”, 901-767-8930.
