Cornelia Pierce Hasen's Obituary
Cornelia Pierce Hasen, 93, of Memphis died on Monday, September 16, 2019. She was a resident of The Village at Germantown. Born September 30, 1925 in Greensboro, NC, she was the daughter of Sylvester Yates Pierce and Nancy Hendrick Pierce. Her husband, Dr. Howard B. Hasen, preceded her in death after 55 years of marriage.Cornelia graduated in 1942 from Richardson High School, College Park GA, and then attended St. Petersburg College, St. Petersburg, FL, and the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Completing her education, she received her BS in Nursing from the University of Tennessee, Memphis, in 1947. Mrs. Hasen volunteered at the Memphis Juvenile Court and Redeemer Lutheran Church. She later became an avid horsewoman, riding for pleasure, in shows, and as a member of Longreen Foxhounds Hunt Club.Survivors include: Son, Dr. Howard B. Hasen, Jr. (Janis) of Memphis; daughter, Patricia H. Russell (Mark) of Greeneville. Grandchildren: Katherine H. Le Denmat (Benoit) of Houston, TX; Hunter Hasen ( Lisa) of Mountain Brook, AL; Whitney H. Ramos (Rei) of Vestavia Hills, AL; and Audrey H. Taylor (Jon) of Russia, NY: and 6 great grandchildren; sister, Nancy Williams (George) of Murfreesboro.The family would like to thank her care giver, Tester Washington and close friend, Martha Lund for their kindness.In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, S. Yates Pierce, Jr.She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church.A private graveside service will be held.The family requests that memorials be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
