Cora Lee Church's Obituary
Cora Lee Church, of Memphis, Tennessee, formerly of Trumann, Arkansas, passed away Wednesday evening, August 10, 2016. Cora Lee Church (Forbess) was born December 16, 1927 in Trumann, Arkansas, to Joseph Forbess and Brooksie Forbess (Powell). She was the loving sister to six siblings: Herbert Forbess, of Roseburg, Oregon; Earl Forbess, of Senatobia, Mississippi; Florene Gourley, of Grandberry, Texas; Bonnie Forbess of Lake Village, Arkansas; the late Susie Gates, of Eudora, Arkansas and the late John Joseph Forbess of Trumann, Arkansas. She graduated from Trumann High School and then Arkansas State University. She married her husband, Mr. Jack E. Church (formerly of Trumann, Arkansas), in 1948, after which she and her husband moved to Memphis, Tennessee where they lived happily for sixty-eight years. For twenty-five years, Mrs. Church was a beloved and dedicated teacher and then the Principal of Trenors Day School. Mr. and Mrs. Church had their only child, Jacquelyn Louise Haas (Church) in 1949. Mrs. Church was the Grandmother to John Alexander Irvine, Jr (Jack) and (Allison) Brooks Irvine Winnig, and a great-grandmother to Jack Irvine, Virginia Irvine, Cora Winnig and William Winnig. A loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, Mrs. Cora Lee Church, remembered affectionately as “Memaw” has touched the lives of everyone she has met. She was a member of Germantown Baptist Church for over fifty years. She loved deeply and was well loved by all for eighty-eight years. She will live on in our hearts and memories. A funeral service will be held at 2:30 pm on Sunday, August 14, 2016 at Memorial Park Funeral Home, the family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 1:30 pm. Burial will follow services in Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Germantown Baptist Church. “Celebrating Life….Behind the Stone Wall.”
