Connie Josephine Grubb Ballard's Obituary
Connie Josephine Grubb Ballard, age 84 of Spring Hill, FL, passed away on Thursday, December 12, 2019. Born February 27, 1935, in Pulaski, Virginia, she is predeceased by her parents William Bayne Grubb of Pulaski, Virginia and Sylvia Owen Grubb of Huntington, West Virginia; her late husband of 52 years, Charles Lee Ballard Sr of Tupelo, Mississippi; and her son, Charles Lee Ballard, Jr of Memphis, TN.Connie attended high school at Hapeville High School and earned a BBA in business from Memphis State University where she was a member of the Delta Zeta sorority. Following graduation, she was a buyer of perfume, stationary, cosmetics, and nurses’ uniforms for the Lowenstein’s Department Store in Memphis, TN. This is also where she met her husband to be who took her and two of her girlfriends to the Fair for their very first date. They owned and operated the “Chat and Chow” restaurant located near the Memphis airport for a number of years before she made the decision to stay home to raise her children. Once they went to high school, she returned to work at her husband’s CPA firm as the receptionist and office manager until their retirement in the early 2000s.Connie was a Christian women who was involved in numerous Bible studies and prayer groups throughout her life. She raised her children to also know God and to become Christians as well. In retirement, she enjoyed cooking, fishing with her husband, and all things sports related, particularly involving her beloved Memphis State! She moved to Florida in May 2016 with her daughter and son-in-law and was a resident of Brookdale of Spring Hill where she led an active and fun life until shortly before her death. She was a sweet lady, had many friends, and was adored by all who knew her.She is survived by her brother, William Bayne Grubb II (Jean) of Comer, GA; her daughter Sylvia Ballard Berringer (Scott) of Hernando Beach, FL; and her two nephews William Bayne Grubb III (Rosemary) of Wilmington, DE and Brantley Russell Grubb (Jay) of Denver, CO.Visitation will be held at Memorial Park Funeral Home & Cemetery from 10-11am on Tuesday, December 17th, with a graveside burial to follow at 11am.The family wishes to thank Brookdale of Spring Hill for their loving care of Connie during the past 3 ½ years, and HPH Hospice for their help in making her comfortable as she transitioned from this earth into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior.Arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Ave. Memphis, TN 38119, 901-767-8930. “A Fitting Farewell for Everyone”……..
