Clyde Devine, Jr.
December 16, 1927 - July 31, 2023
World War II veteran, Clyde Devine, Jr., passed away on July 31, 2023, surrounded by family who adored him. Graveside services will be held on Thursday, August 10 at 1 pm at Memphis Memory Gardens Cemetery, 6444 Raleigh Lagrange Road, Memphis, TN 38134.
Clyde was born on December 16, 1927, in Stewart, MS to Samuel Clyde Devine and Lela Cooke Devine. An only child, Clyde enlisted into the US Army Air Corp during World War II.
After honorable discharge, he returned to Memphis, TN where he married Mavis Pearson and raised two sons, Russell and Don Devine.
Born with strong business acuity and acumen, Clyde joined Buckeye Cellulose following his Army discharge. He then joined RCA as a maintenance and grounds superintendent and remained proud of his RCA career throughout his entire life. Clyde eventually moved his entire family to Houston, Texas to manage a large Ob-Gyn practice. He retired from that role and he and his beloved wife moved to Holly Springs, MS.
For many years, Clyde served as a Deacon at Scenic Hills Baptist Church. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting. For several years, he and his son, Don, operated an antique shoppe and auction house in LaPorte, Texas.
Clyde is survived by his oldest son, Russell Devine (Barbara) of Winter Garden, FL; a daughter-in-law, Aurora Devine of Houston, TX, two grandchildren, DW Devine (Taryn McClernon) of Monticello, MS and Ashley Devine (Josh Drude) of Houston, TX and five great-grandchildren.
Clyde was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Mavis Devine, his parents and his son, Don Devine.
