Clare Marie Flint Thorpe's Obituary
Clare Marie Flint Thorpe, 85, of Memphis, TN, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on November 2, 2020. Ms. Thorpe is survived by her children and their spouses, Janet Estey (Vern), David Thorpe (Corienne), Donna Lee Crone (Chris) and Colleen Goodspeed (Dan); grandchildren and their spouses, John Daniel Goodspeed, Kristen Crone, Justin Crone (Meg), Daniel Thorpe, Liz Thorpe, Jennifer Bigler (Mike), Andrea Easley; and niece Diane Baker Harris (Karl).
Ms. Thorpe was preceded in death by her parents, Alverty and Ida Mullaney Flint; siblings, Mary Flint Baker (Don), Kevin M. Flint; and John Thorpe (Helen), her former husband and father to her four children.
Ms. Thorpe was born in Albany, NY and attended North Dakota State University. She was “Granny Clare” to all and was loved beyond measure. You could often find Granny Clare at ball games for her children and grandchildren, watching her beloved Chicago Cubs, or bowling with friends and family. She was a master seamstress and Mid-South Fair award-winning knitter. She knitted several afghans for family, friends, newlyweds, and newborns.
She retired from the Internal Revenue Service where she worked as a tax examiner. Ms. Thorpe was a devout Roman Catholic and longtime member of St. Michael and St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Churches.
A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, November 7 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter Catholic Church, Memphis, TN with a visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. The family will receive friends following the Mass at the home of Colleen & Dan Goodspeed.
