Clara Darden Smith Eppes' Obituary
Clara Darden Smith Eppes, 92, died early Saturday morning, January 10, 2009, at the home in Memphis she had shared with her late husband, William Pike Eppes, Jr., for 70 years. She was a faithful member of Epworth Methodist, Galloway Methodist and for almost 50 years, St. Luke’s United Methodist Church. She is survived by her son William Pike Eppes, III (Megan Camp) of Wilmington, NC, daughter, Bette Eppes Colter (Harry) of Memphis, two grandchildren, Carole Colter-Brimhall (Robert) of Memphis, Carlton Edward Colter (Laura Secondo) of Falls Church, VA, two great-grandchildren, Colin Colter-Brimhall and Lionel Matthew Colter, and nieces and nephews, all who were the focus of her life. Clara Dee was the last surviving member of her generation in the Smith-Eppes family. She was much loved and often sought for friendship and counsel by family, friends, neighbors, and friends of her children.Services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 14, 2009 with a visitation one hour prior to service. Burial will be in Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery.
