Christopher Mark Harrod's Obituary
Christopher Mark Harrod born October 18, 1960 in St. Louis, MO has lost his battle with cancer on Thursday, November 8, 2018. He was the oldest of three children born to Laurence and Ruth Harrod. In July of 1963 they moved to Memphis, TN where Chris spent most of his life. Chris is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth “Michelle” Harrod; two granddaughters, Jaiden Marie Matte and Jordyn Michelle Barrera from Pearland, TX; mother, Ruth Harrod of Memphis, TN; father, Laurence Harrod of Denver, CO; sister, Heather Perkins (Dan) of Memphis, TN; and brother, Adrian Harrod (Nicci) from Paris, TN. Chris also has many loving nieces and nephews, namely Ally Perkins, Kate Perkins, Shaun Harrod (Montana), Jordan Harrod, Davy Harrod, Aiden Harrod, Jana Harrod and Jessie Harrod. Aside from family, he had many, many friends. Chris was a loving father, grandfather, son, and uncle to all. The family would like to pay a special thanks to friend Kelly Rikkard-Hopper for so graciously being Chris’s caretaker since he was diagnosed with cancer in February, 2018. She will always hold a special place in our hearts. When Chris entered a room he always had a smile on his face. He was a laid back, easy going gentlemen who was always willing to lend a helping hand when needed. As a young adult Chris enjoyed playing basketball, as well as shooting pool. He was known as the pool shark amongst his many friends. No one was better than him. In addition to basketball and pool he also liked to play soccer and corkball. In 1978, Chris began his career at Schering-Plough Healthcare Products. He began on an assembly line working his way up to Senior Management responsible for the Commercialization Projects. While working for Schering-Plough in both Memphis, TN and New Jersey, he enjoyed the city life. He enjoyed site seeing, going to the many restaurants, museums and seeing what the cities had to offer. Upon leaving Schering-Plough in 2001, Chris decided to take on a new adventure in life. He took a single lawnmower, started mowing lawns and grew his company, Green Earth Lawnscapes, LLC into the successful company it is today. He loved seeing the final project of his landscaping jobs for both the residential and commercial accounts he held. Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Ave, Memphis, TN 38119 will host visitation for Chris’ family and friends Monday, November 12, 2018 from 6-8 p.m. The funeral will be held Tuesday, November 13, 2018 at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, if you would like to make a monetary donation in his honor you may do so to Colon Cancer Alliance.
