Christian David Uhlmann's Obituary
CHRISTIAN DAVID UHLMANN, 50, of Memphis died peacefully at his home on Saturday, January 24, 2009. He is survived by his devoted mother, Katherine Uhlmann; sister, Diane Tyson; two brothers, Mark Uhlmann and Robert Uhlmann (Mimi); two nephews, David Tyson and Alex Uhlmann; and two nieces, Kelly Tyson and Ellen Uhlmann, all of Memphis. He is preceded in death by his father, George M. Uhlmann, and his sister, Jan Uhlmann. Afflicted with cerebral palsy from birth, Chris was confined to a wheelchair his entire life, but his zest for life, his thirst of knowledge, and his love of the Memphis Tigers, the St. Louis Cardinals and the Chicago Bears knew no limitations. A graduate of the Shrine School and a member of the Germantown Athletic Club, Chris had an enormous circle of friends from all walks of life. During his recent bout with cancer, Chris never failed to provide a kind word or a sincere thank you to the many doctors, nurses and caregivers who assisted him. They, in turn, were impressed by the constant stream of visitors Chris had a testament to his ability to inspire all with whom he came in contact. Chris was an enthusiastic keyboardist, avid reader, regular swimmer at the Germantown Athletic Club, and a sports fan with an encyclopedic memory. He recently was blessed by a surprise visit from Tiger basketball coach John Calipari, who prayed with Chris just days before his death. Chris was a gracious and spiritual person, and he was especially grateful for the Men’s Club of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, whose members helped him in so many ways, and for the enduring support and friendship of Mike Toarmina, Bill Bates, Father Gary Lamb, Dr. Robert Kraus and Antionette “Bootsy” Lanigan, among many others. He was a founder of the United Cerebral Palsy Life Center, and a communicant of Holy Rosary Catholic Church.Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday, January 26th at Memorial Park Funeral Home, with services on Tuesday at 10 a.m. Holy Rosary Catholic Church on Park Avenue.Memorial contributions may be made to Shelby Residential Vocational Services, Inc.
