Chris Edward Lawrence's Obituary
On March 8, 2022, Chris Edward Lawrence, 77, went home to be with our Lord. He passed away peacefully at home under the wonderful care of Methodist Hospice Care, surrounded by his wife, children, and beloved Golden Retriever, Mollie. Chris was passionate about life and it showed in his personality. He never met a stranger, always found an opportunity to be silly, make jokes and could make an entire room laugh; even up to his final days. Chris was also an avid animal lover, passing along this wonderful trait to his children and grandchildren. Chris was a natural "giver" and would reach out to help anyone in need; no matter the circumstances. Chris' gentle, kind, fun loving nature will be greatly missed by all.
Chris was born an only child in Baltimore, MD to the late Chris and Doris Lawrence. He is survived by his wife, Pat, of almost 57 years, son, Chris R. Lawrence (Dana), daughter, Crystal Champion (Shane), granddaughter, Krista Lawrence, and grandsons, Eli Champion, Ethan Champion, and Judah Champion.
Chris started his career with Aircraft Service International Inc. in Tampa, FL in 1963 where he took an early retirement after 25 years as a Regional Vice President at the Memphis International Airport. From there, Chris began working with Northwest Airlines in 1989 until that retirement in 2004, where he wore many different managerial hats over those years; though he continued to work in the aviation industry until his final retirement in 2011.
In his spare time over the years, Chris enjoyed traveling, being outdoors, meeting new friends all over the world, creating a tradition of spending time with family during the holidays in the mountains, watching the Baltimore Orioles, and cheering on the University of Memphis Tigers basketball and football teams, the Memphis Grizzlies, and the Tennessee Titans.
Family and friends are invited to gather on Saturday, April 2, 2022 from 12:00 noon to 3:00 p.m. for Chris' Celebration of Life Memorial Reception at Memorial Park Funeral Home for all to share memories and stories of him.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made in Chris' honor and name to Memphis Area Golden Retriever Rescue (from whom he and Pat permanently fostered their last 2 Goldens) or the American Cancer Society.
