Chester D. Morgan's Obituary
Chester D. Morgan, 82, passed away October 13, 2013 at St. Francis Hospital in Bartlett. Growing up during the Depression and World War II, he enlisted in the Army at the age of 18 and served two tours in Korea. In 1969 he retired after 20 years of service to his country with the rank of Master Sergeant. Fascinated with history throughout his life, after retirement he continued his education at Memphis State majoring in history and receiving his Master of Arts Degree in Geography. In 1993 he retired from the United States Postal Service. Mr. Morgan was a member of Raleigh United Methodist Church from 1968-2009; member of Parker Fellowship Sunday School Class, where he was president for several years and a member of First United Methodist Church since 2010. He was preceded in death by his wife of almost 60 years, Martha D. Morgan and survived by his children, Nancy Fosheé (Frank), Dr. Charles Morgan, Jennifer Clinghan, and Russell W. Morgan (Carol); sisters, Lucille Johnson and Janet Lytle (Dennis); grandchildren, Charles Wyatt Fosheé, Whitney Avery (David), Rebecca Morgan, Daniel Morgan, and David Morgan; and great grandchild, Dominic Avery. The family will receive friends from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. Thursday, October 17 and the funeral service 1 p.m. Friday, October 18 both at Memorial Park Funeral Home.Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Ave. Memphis, TN 38119, (901)767-8930, “Behind the Stone Wall”.
