Cheryl Hisky Smith's Obituary
Cheryl Hisky Smith, 70, of Senatobia, MS, passed away on December 7, 2022.
Cheryl was born on November 14, 1952 in Memphis, TN to John Malcolm Hisky of Memphis, TN and Harriett Jean Duke Hisky of Jonesboro, AR.
Cheryl graduated from Bishop Byrne High School in 1971. Soon after graduating high school, Cheryl began working in the insurance field, where she continued working for forty-five years. She began with Allstate Insurance, and eventually moved to Preston Carpenter’s State Farm Insurance Agency where she worked in customer service for thirty-five years, until she retired in 2017. For a few years after retirement, many of her State Farm customers continued to call her for insurance questions and advice because of the trust and friendship she cultivated with each of them.
Cheryl will be remembered for her infectious laugh and her loving, nurturing personality. She was the life of the party, and you couldn’t help but be happy in her presence. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, cousin, aunt, and friend. She developed relationships with everyone she came in contact with. Cheryl loved and took great care of everyone, including her fur babies Gabby, Ellie, and Caesar. She enjoyed planting flowers and tending to her garden, as well as working with her husband Don for several years to create and cultivate a pond on their land with several breeds of fish. Most recently, she was very excited to be a part of the planning committee for her high school’s 50-year reunion that took place in October 2021. Cheryl danced to the drum of her heart and led others to enjoy life and love every moment. Most of all, she loved sitting around the kitchen table and gathering with family and friends. She will forever be missed by so many.
Cheryl is survived by her husband, Don Smith; daughter, Alison (Brian) Brewington; and five grandchildren: Nathan Ruble; Cody, Kyle, and Chloe Brewington; and Ryan Gearheart. She also leaves behind six siblings: Linda (Leon) Landon of Bartlett, TN; Larry (Alyson) Hisky of Lee’s Summit, MO; Teresa (Fred) Bargiacchi of Memphis, TN; Michael (Kathy) Hisky of Memphis, TN; Trisha (Chris) Meyer, of Lakeland, TN; and David (Claudia) Hisky of Austin, TX; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Cheryl is preceded in death by her mother and father, Jean and Jack Hisky, her beloved son, Michael Gearheart, and nephew Jonathan Bargiacchi.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 14, 2022, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Ave., Memphis, TN 38119.
The funeral service will begin at 1:00 p.m. in the Riverside Chapel, and the burial will follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Dominican Sisters of St. Paul’s Parish, 1425 E. Shelby Dr., Memphis, TN 38116.
