Charles Cordra York's Obituary
Charles Cordra York, Jr., 89, of Fisherville Community, Collierville, TN died October 30, 2016 at his home. Cordra attended Central High School, was a merchant marine, and a graduate of the University of the South. As a partner of York Arms Co., he was a fixture in the sporting and hunting community of the Mid-South. In his early adult life, he competed in skeet shooting and also found time to be active in the beginning of the Mid South Sports Car activities. As a youth, horses were a part of his life; later the interest became larger due to the enthusiasm of his three daughters and his nephew, Ray Gill. His love of nature along with his compassion for animals guided his entire life. He was active until the end – full of hunting, fishing, and horses. He is preceded in death by his parents Cordra and Seta Butler York, sister Seta York, son Charles Clay York, and mother-in-law Martha Gulledge. Cordra is survived by his wife, Martha Johnson Gulledge York, daughters – Cameron York Streaker (Bill), Ashley York Porter (Ed), Leigh York Lander (J.M.), grandchildren – Ed Porter, III, and Grace Porter, and good family friend, Barbara Ann Batts. Services will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery in the Fireside Chapel at 11:30 am on Tuesday, November 1 with reception to follow.
