Rev. Charles Woodall's Obituary
Reverend Charles Lyman Woodall, 84, retired pastor of the Central Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) passed away peacefully on August 26, 2011, after living a full, happy, and enriching life and being a strong servant of the Lord. Born in Paducah, KY, on February 14, 1927, Rev. Woodall married Eula Lou St. Clair in 1945. They enjoyed a happy, fulfilling marriage, which produced six children. After 57 years of marriage, Eula died in 2002. In 2007, Charles married Gladys Rebecca Neel, who died in 2010. In addition to having two wives precede him in death, Rev. Woodall lost a son, Phillip Lee Woodall, in 2007. Surviving family members include five children: Robert Larry Woodall of Memphis; Nancy Thornton of Nesbit, MS; Charles Ross Woodall of Memphis; Jimmy Woodall of Waxhaw, NC; and Claudia Woodall Buchanan of Nashville, TN. There are also 14 surviving grandchildren and 12 surviving great-grandchildren. Rev. Woodall was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a graduate of Phillips University (Enid, OK) and Lexington Theological Seminary (Lexington, KY). He spent a lifetime serving as pastor of various southeastern Disciples of Christ churches, including three in Memphis: McLemore Christian Church (where he grew up), Bethany Christian Church, and Central Christian Church (where he was Minister Emeritus). He was an Abe Lincoln scholar and an avid world traveler. Visitation will be 3-6 p.m., Sunday, August 28, and funeral services will be at 1 p.m., Monday, August 29 – both at Central Christian Church. Interment will follow in Bethany Christian Cemetery, Eads, TN. Any memorials may be made to Central Christian Church, 531 South McLean, Memphis, TN 38104.
