Charles Shirley's Obituary
Charles Bowden Shirley, 86, of Memphis, Tennessee passed away Wednesday, July 13, 2011 at Signature Health Rehabilitation Center. He was born in Memphis on May 15, 1925. Charles was preceded in death by his wife of 38 years, Jo Marie Shirley. He was loved and will be greatly missed by his two daughters, Charlotte Ricks of Coldwater, MS and Janice Oattis of Holly Springs, MS and son, Stephen Shirley of Boulder, CO; eleven grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren, one great-great-grand child; his friend and companion Flo Johnson, four sisters, Sammy McGrory, Bobbie Shirley, Peggy Davis, Jo Davis, and proceeded in death by his brother Lee Roy Shirley and sister Mary Charlene Shirley. Charlie was a member of Plumbers Local No. 17 for more than 60 years. He was a decorated veteran of World War II serving in the 88th Chemical Mortar Battalion in the South Pacific 1943 – 1946. Visitation will be held at Memorial Park Funeral Home on Poplar Monday, July 18, 2011 from 2:00 to 3:00, with a Graveside Service at 3:00 p.m., at Memorial Park Cemetery.
