Charles Edwin Oxner's Obituary
Charles Edwin Oxner, 87, went to be with the Lord on July 14, 2017. Charlie was a long time resident of Memphis where he lived since leaving his childhood home in Marianna, AR. He retired from MLGW after more than 35 years. He was a long-time active member of Eudora Baptist Church where he sang in the choir and volunteered with a ministry serving food to families in the ER waiting room at Baptist East Hospital. He loved music, sports, especially golf, and spending time with his family. He will always be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. Charlie never met a stranger. He genuinely loved people and loved getting to know their story. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Viola Oxner, and his brother, Sam Oxner. Charlie is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Gwendolyn Sue Oxner, who lovingly called him “Cha”; two sons, Brent Oxner (Diane) of Memphis, TN, Keith Oxner of Bedford, IN; three grandchildren, Chris Markwell (Anthony), Lauren Doll (Matt), Steve Oxner (Abbey) and three great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 16. The funeral service will be held on Monday, July 17, at 1:00 p.m., all at Memorial Park Funeral Home.
