Charles O. McPherson's Obituary
Judge Charles O. McPherson, 78, passed away January 29, 2015. He graduated from Memphis State College February 1964 and graduated from the very first law class at Memphis State College (now University of Memphis) in May 1965. He was a Circuit Court Judge, Division II for 18 years. Judge McPherson also practiced law with the Burch, Porter and Johnson Firm and with the Spicer, Flynn and Rudstrom Firm and with the Leitner Williams Firm. He was named “Judge of The Year” in 1982 and was awarded the Pillar of Excellence in law from the University of Memphis in August 2013. Judge McPherson was a member of First Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Olive Branch, MS. and was an elder and taught Sunday School. He was the scout master of Troop 75 at Mullins Methodist Church. Judge McPherson received the Silver Beaver award and the Award of Merit in scouting. He was also a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity at Memphis State College. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Nancy Sayree Shannon McPherson; sons, Thomas Fred and Michael Shannon McPherson; grandchildren, Cody and Gabrielle Chaney, Logan Maddox McPherson and sister, Halcie (Bill) Harris of Houston, Texas as well as numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 3, from 5:30 – 7:00 pm and a funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 4, at 1:00 pm. all at Memorial Park Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be sent to First Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Olive Branch and Boy Scouts Chickasaw Council.Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Ave. Memphis, TN 38119, “Behind the Stone Wall.”
