Charles M. Keith's Obituary
Charles M. (Charlie) Keith, Sr., age 92, of Germantown, passed away peacefully in his sleep April 6, 2015. Born October 26, 1922, in Faulkner, MS, he attended Mississippi State for one year before entering the Army and served for 3 years in WWII. He was an Army Sergeant in the Paratroopers division stationed in the Philippines and fought in the Battle of Manila. After the war, he returned home and enrolled at the University of Tennessee where his younger sister, Jo, was a Drum Majorette. He graduated from UT Knoxville in 1949 with a degree in Business Finance and was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity. At UT he met and married Bobbye Jean Humphreys of Paris, TN. They moved to Memphis where he pursued a successful career as a Commodities Futures Broker. He worked for E.E. Buxton Co., A.G. Edwards, Hornblower Weeks Hemphill Noyes, and Shearson Lehman. He retired in 1984 as a Senior Vice President. He was a long time Germantown resident who also had a second home in Sarasota, Florida for several years. Charlie and Bobbye had 2 sons, Tommy ( who passed away in 1996) and Murry, age 61, who lives in Collierville with his wife, Betty, and their daughter, Mary, age 25. He was an avid golfer who spent most of his retired life on the golf course and traveling with his wife, Bobbye. He was a long time member of Chickasaw Country Club and Southwind and the high point of his golf life was a golfing trip to Scotland and Ireland. He was also a big Vol, Tiger, and Grizzlies fan. He is also survived by his sister, Jerry Phelps of Huntsville, Alabama, brothers John Keith of Atlanta and Bill Keith of Decatur, Alabama. His sister, Jo Major of Fairfax, Virginia, passed away last year at the age of 90. He was a member of Second Presbyterian Church. He will be buried at Memorial Park Cemetery with a small, private gathering. He requests any donations be made to the ALS Association.Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Ave. Memphis, TN 38119, “Behind the Stone Wall.”
