Charles M. Jordan's Obituary
Charles Marvin Jordan Jr., age 90, died peacefully September 16, 2023 at his home in Germantown, TN surrounded by his family.
Charles was born March 15, 1933 in Hardeman County, TN to Charles “Buck” Jordan and Marion Nuckolls Jordan.
He grew up in Toone, TN and attended Toone Elementary. He graduated in 1950 after being voted Mr. Bolivar Central High in Bolivar, TN. He then attended and graduated from Memphis State College earning his degree in Finance. He enlisted into the U.S. Army in 1954, serving most of his time in Okinawa. Charles was honorably discharged in 1956.
After a blind date in May 1957, he married Betty Jean Cain that same October. She was a physical therapist at that time for The Campbell Clinic. They were soon transferred by Wonder Snack Foods to Oklahoma City where their two sons, Charles Andrew (Andy) and Jay Todd (Jay) were born. After the company moved them to Ohio in 1967, he was later transferred back to Memphis in 1969. After leaving Wonder Snack Foods, Charles also worked several years for Bruce Hardwoods Flooring, Cook Industries, and John Morrell. Despite his multiple employers, he was very proud to say that he never went a week without a job and never missed a payday. Charles had an unmatched work ethic, never avoiding working long hours and weekends when it was needed. Charles eventually went to work for Kellogg’s in 1981 where all those extended hours were no longer required. He proudly retired from there 15 years later.
Charles and Betty have been active members of Colonial Park United Methodist Church since 1970. He enjoyed golf, camping, fishing, watching sports, working in the yard, and playing bridge; but most of all he enjoyed spending his leisure time with family and friends.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers – James (Jimmy) Jordan and John Jordan.
He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years Betty Cain Jordan of Germantown, his sons Andy (Lynette) of Lebanon, TN, and Jay (Ginny) of Germantown, TN, his grandchildren Taylor, Witt, Trey, Conner (Bailey) and Sarah, and his great grandson Jake.
Visitation will begin at 9:00 am, Saturday, September 23, 2023 at Memorial Park Funeral Home, followed by a 10:00 am funeral service. At the conclusion of the funeral service a reception will held in the Fellowship Hall of Colonial Park United Methodist Church.
In lieu of flowers the family is asking that donations be made to Colonial Park United Methodist Church and/or the donor’s charity of choice.
