Charles Wilford Hodge's Obituary
Charles Wilford Hodge, 88, passed away on August 6, 2009 at Baptist East Memorial Hospital.He was born on May 15, 1921 in Calhoun City, Mississippi to Simmie C. and Daisy Langston Hodge. Mr. Hodge’s civic activities included many years as a Mason and chaplain with the Shriners at Al Chymia Temple. Charles served the city of Memphis for 25 years and retired as City Tax Assessor in 1978. Prior to his career with the city, he served the United States Navy during WWII as a flight engineer with the VPB-118 Squadron. For his valiant service with the Navy, he was presented with many awards including the “Distinguished Flying Cross,” “Presidential Unit Citation,” and the “WWII Victory Medal.” Charlie was a life-long and dedicated member of Ridgeway Baptist Church.Charlie is survived by his wife of 61 years, Doris Ward Hodge and their two sons, Terry Hodge (Rosie) and Barry Hodge (Vickie). As Papaw, he leaves 5 grandchildren; Jason Hodge, Joanna Hodge Goforth (Joey), Jonathan Hodge, Jason Lacy, and Jeff Lacy (Heidi) as well as six great-grandchildren; Ella, Seth, and Lily Goforth and Carson, Cole, and Tripp Lacy.The visitation will be Friday, August 7 from 6- 8 p.m. at Memorial Park Funeral Home. Memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 8 at Ridgeway Baptist Church at 1:00 p.m. with burial at Memorial Park Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Ridgeway Baptist Church Benevolence Fund, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the US Navy Memorial Fund.
