Charles Gray's Obituary
Charles Franklin Gray passed away Sunday, May 21, 2017 at the Baptist Reynolds Hospice House in Collierville, TN. He was preceded in death by his parents, Audrey and James Gray; brothers, Jimmy Gray and Johnny Gray; and sisters, Edith Eaves and Edna Ratchford. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Nancy; daughters, Kelly Gray and Kendall Attias (Oliver); and his beloved grandson, Jacob Attias. He is also survived by his sister, Bettye Gouger of Hixon, TN and brothers, George Gray (Darlene) of Phoenix, AZ and Ted Gray (Sandra) of Tamarac, FL. He was a member of Prescott Memorial Baptist Church for 46 years before joining Shady Grove Presbyterian Church when the two churches merged. As a young man Charles served in the U.S. Naval Reserve. He received a B.A. degree from Georgetown College, a B.Div. degree from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, and a M.Ed. degree from Memphis State University. He served as pastor of churches in Kentucky, Mississippi, and Tennessee. He was an adjunct professor in Criminal Justice at Shelby State Community College and retired after 30 years at the Juvenile Court of Memphis and Shelby County as the Chief Probation Officer. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, May 23 and funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, May 24 at Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to Shady Grove Presbyterian Church, Youth Villages, or the University Cluster Food Pantry in care of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church. The service have been entrusted to Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Ave., Memphis TN 38119. “Celebrating Life….Behind the Stone Wall.”
